Absence of a Global Figure: Vladimir Putin Opts Out of G20 Summit in New Delhi

In a surprising turn of events, Russian President Vladimir Putin has chosen not to grace the upcoming G20 summit in New Delhi with his presence on September 9-10. The announcement, made by Kremlin Spokesman Dmitry Peskov, has sparked intrigue about the reasons behind this decision.

Clarifying the matter, Peskov stated, “No, the president has no such plans,” as reported by the official Tass news agency. However, he mentioned that the format of Putin’s involvement would be determined at a later date, leaving room for speculation.

This isn’t the first instance of Putin’s absence from a significant summit. Just recently, he skipped the in-person BRICS Summit in Johannesburg, where he was represented by Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov. The decision was attributed to the International Criminal Court (ICC) issuing an arrest warrant against Putin in March. This legal action revolves around allegations of an intricate scheme involving the deportation of Ukrainian children to Russia.
