Prime Minister Narendra Modi speech on Independence Day at the historic Red Fort

Continuing his tradition from 2014, Modi donned a multicolored Rajasthani bandhan print turban with an off-white kurta and churidar for the Independence Day celebrations. Arriving at the Red Fort, he was received by Defense Minister Rajnath Singh and other dignitaries and, after hoisting the tricolor at the iconic memorial, began his customary address to the nation.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday greeted the people on the occasion of the country’s 77th Independence Day and paid tribute to the freedom fighters while affirming the determination to fulfill their vision.

Prime Minister on X, formerly known as Twitter “Happy Independence Day. We pay tribute to our great freedom fighters and reaffirm our commitment to fulfill their vision. Jai Hind!”

Prime Minister Narendra Modi speech:

•During his nearly 90-minute speech, Prime Minister Narendra Modi also condemned corruption, nepotism and appeasement as three evils that have damaged the country immensely and said it was a collective responsibility to promote “suchita (integrity), pardarshita (transparency), nishpakshta (objectivity)” to India developed.

•Modi outlined the Centre’s commitment to make India a developed country by 2047, which will be the centenary of the country’s independence.

•Appealing for peace in strife-torn Manipur, Modi said people across the country stand with the people of the northeastern state. “The whole country stands with the people of Manipur. Peace is the only way to resolve all disputes. The Center and the Manipur government are making all efforts to ensure that peace returns to the state at the earliest,” Modi said.

•Modi said his government would take further measures to tackle inflation to minimize the burden of rising prices on the people.

•Modi also announced the launch of Vishwakarma Yojana with an initial outlay of ₹13,000-15,000 crore next month for those with traditional skills. The Vishwakarma scheme was announced in the 2023 budget.

•The Prime Minister said that India has shown the world the way to fight climate change through a “mission of life” to stop the mindless consumption of resources. “The whole world is facing climate change. India has shown the way to fight it,” Modi said.
