Independence Day 2023: Addressing the cycle of violence and incidents of atrocities against women in Manipur, PM Modi said India is with the people of the state.
On the occasion of 77th Independence Day, Prime Minister Narendra Modi said that the central and state governments are making all efforts to restore peace in strife-torn Manipur. Addressing the nation from the ramparts of the iconic Red Fort, the Prime Minister emphasized that the way to a solution in Manipur will be found through peace.

“In recent weeks, during the period of violence in the Northeast, especially in Manipur, many lives have been lost and the honor of mothers and daughters has suffered greatly, but in recent days there have been reports of peace. “The nation is with Manipur,” the prime minister said at the start of his tenth Red Fort address.
“The people of Manipur should build on the peace that has been restored in the last few days. The way to a solution will be found through peace in Manipur,” the Prime Minister said. PM Modi also expressed his condolences to those affected by the “unimaginable crisis” caused by the natural calamity.
“This year several states of the country have witnessed an unimaginable crisis. I express my condolences to all the affected families and assure them that the state and central governments will work together to overcome this challenge,” he said.
During his 10th consecutive Independence Day address from Red Fort, Prime Minister Modi repeatedly used the term ‘parivaarjan’ or family members to address citizens. In his earlier speeches, PM Modi referred to the people of the country as “my beloved brothers and sisters”.
In keeping with the tradition of wearing colorful turbans on every Independence Day since 2014, Prime Minister Modi donned a multicolored Rajasthani bandhan print turban with an off-white kurta and churidar for the 77th Independence Day celebrations at the historic Red Fort. He also wore a black v-neck jacket with a turban that was a mix of yellow, green and red with a long tail.
