CM Arvind Kejriwal declare black day for Indian democracy after passing the National Capital Territory of Delhi (Amendment) Bill

Soon after the Rajya Sabha passed the Delhi Services Bill, Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal on Monday said it was a “black day” for Indian democracy and accused the BJP-ruled Center of trying to “usurp” power through the back door. He also said it was an “insult” to the suffrage of the people of Delhi.

Parliament on Monday passed a contentious bill giving the central government control over bureaucrats in the Delhi government, with the Rajya Sabha passing it by 131 votes to 102. Home Minister Amit Shah defended the Government of National Capital Territory of Delhi (Amendment) Bill, 2023 and said the proposed legislation is aimed at ensuring efficient and corruption-free governance in the national capital.

In a video message, Kejriwal criticized Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Home Minister Amit Shah. He said that the people of Delhi will not give a single seat to the BJP in the 2024 Lok Sabha polls.

Kejriwal alleged that the BJP was unable to compete with him and the work of the AAP government, and therefore “tortured” the people of Delhi. Claiming to be a “son of Delhi”, Kejriwal claimed that people like him.
