Women’s CWC: Mandhana and Kaur lead India to their best World Cup score against West Indies

Smriti Mandhana and Harmanpreet Kaur scored centuries to lead India to a big total of 317/8 against West Indies at Seddon Park in Hamilton on Saturday in the current ICC Women’s World Cup 2022. Smriti Mandhana struck 123 runs, while Harmanpreet Singh hammered 109 runs. The Women in Blue had the highest score in the World Cup with 317 runs.

Anisa Mohammed got two wickets for the West Indies, while Shakera Selman, Shamilia Connell, Deandra Dottin, and Aaliyah Alleyne each took one.

Yastika Bhatia, who chose to bat first, helped India get off to a quick start in Hamilton. Before departing, Bhatia hammered 31 off only 21 deliveries. Shakera Selman scored the winning run in the seventh over.

India were reduced to 58/2 in the 10th over after Indian skipper Mithali Raj (5) holed out. Deepti Sharma was subsequently dismissed in the 14th over by Anisa Mohammed.

With the Women in Blue in danger, Smriti Mandhana, the other Indian opener, used prudence as she formed a critical combination with Harmanpreet Kaur, the seasoned middle-order batter. At the 25-over point of their innings, India had amassed a score of 125/3.

The pair achieved a century of runs between them in the 33rd over, smashing WI bowlers all around Seddon Park. In the 40th over, the southpaw Indian opener struck her second consecutive tonne against West Indies in the World Cup.

In the 43rd over, Shamilia Connell interrupted the Indians’ potentially deadly combination by returning centurion Mandhana to the pavilion. Harmanpreet increased the pace when the Indian opener was dismissed, scoring a century in the 47th over. Richa Ghosh, on the other hand, left after being run out.

In the final three overs of the contest, India’s Pooja Vastrakar, Harmanpreet Kaur, and Jhulan Goswami were all dismissed.

India defeated West Indies 317/8 (Smriti Mandhana 123, Harmanpreet Kaur 109, and Anisa Mohammed 2-59).
