IMD issues fresh red and orange alerts in Himachal Pradesh for the next 24 hours

There seems to be no immediate respite for Himachal Pradesh, which has been lashed by rains for the past few days, as the India Meteorological Department (IMD) issued ‘red’ and ‘orange’ warnings for several districts on Tuesday. mountain state for the next 24 hours.

“A red alert has been issued for very heavy rainfall in Solan, Shimla, Sirmaur, Kullu, Mandi, Kinnaur and Lahaul for the next 24 hours. Additionally, an orange alert has been issued in Una, Hamirpur, Kangra and Chamba. For Mandi, Kinnaur and Lahaul-Spiti a flash flood warning has been issued for the next 24 hours,” IMD senior scientist Sandeep Kumar Sharma said on Monday.

Former Himachal Pradesh Chief Minister Jairam Thakur said on Monday that the state had experienced unprecedented rains in recent days, adding that he was concerned about the loss of life and damage to public infrastructure.

Thakur, who is now the Leader of Opposition in the Himachal Assembly, told ANI that Himachal Pradesh had “not experienced such rain in its history” as more than 12 major bridges were damaged.

“We have never seen such a situation in the last few years. I am very concerned about the prevailing situation in the state. Several big and small rivers are in flood and if the situation persists in the next few days, further damage may occur,” he added. ” he said.

The rains wreaked havoc in Himachal Pradesh, triggering landslides that caused power outages, blocked roads and damaged bridges. The fury of nature in the state claimed 20 lives in the last 48 hours. Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Monday spoke to CM Himachal about the prevailing situation and assured the Centre’s full support.
