Pooja Vastrakar takes four wickets as India restricts New Zealand on 260/9

On Thursday, India limited New Zealand to 260/9 at Seddon Park in Hamilton, in the current ICC Women’s 50-over World Cup.

Amy Satterthwaite and Amelia Kerr both had a 75-run innings. Pooja Vastrakar took four wickets and played a significant role in a critical run out for Women in Blue, while Rajeshwari Gayakwad dismissed two players.

Mithali Raj sent New Zealand in to bat first, and they scored 51/1 in the Powerplay, albeit Kerr and Sophie Devine’s efforts were undone by the loss of the skipper in the 11th over. Richa Ghosh made a brilliant grab behind the stumps to collect Pooja Vastrakar, who had previously run out Suzie Bates with a direct smash.

Amelia Kerr was bowled lbw on the sweep by Rajashwari Gayakwad in the 22nd over, just moments after reaching her half-century. It was the end of a 67-ball collaboration with Satterthwaite.

With Maddy Green and Satterthwaite at the crease, the White Ferns went to 136/3 at the midway point. Green took a gamble in the 34th over to try to boost the flow of runs, but Deepti Sharma withdrew him.

Amy Satterthwaite scored her 27th ODI half-century to help the White Ferns reach 186/4 after 36 overs. In the 43rd over, Pooja Vastrakar removed the dangerous-looking Satterthwaite for 75 runs.

In the 46th over, Gayakwad dismissed Hayley Jensen, while Vastrakar sent two batters back to the pavilion in the next over. Jhulan Goswami, a renowned India bowler, bowled Katey Martin out in the final over of the innings.

New Zealand defeated India with a score of 260/9 (Amy Satterthwaite 75, Amelia Kerr 50; Pooja Vastrakar 4/34).
