MP Satpura Bhawan Fire extinguished after more than 13 hours of fighting; State Government Forms Inquiry Committee

A fire that broke out at Satpura Bhawan in Bhopal, Madhya Pradesh has been brought under control, officials said on Tuesday morning. A massive fire broke out at Satpura Bhawan in Bhopal, Madhya Pradesh on Monday afternoon. Bhopal District Collector Ashish Singh said the Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) and the Army joined forces to douse the fire.

“The fire has been brought under control. All agencies including CISF and Army have come together to douse the fire and it is under control,” said the District Collector. Bhopal Police Commissioner Harinarayan Chari Mishra said that initially it came to the fore that the cause of the fire was a short circuit, but a team of experts had been formed to investigate.

“The flames have been brought under control but there is a plume of smoke at various places due to which there is a possibility that it may flare up later, but teams are working. There is no need (for IAF helicopters) at present. The primary cause of the fire has been revealed to be a short circuit , but a team of experts has been formed to investigate it,” said Harinarayan Chari Mishra.

The fire initially broke out on the third floor of the building and later spread to the sixth floor of the building on Monday. After receiving information about the incident, firefighters went to the scene and started the fire. Earlier on Monday, calling it an unfortunate incident, Madhya Pradesh Health Minister Prabhuram Chaudhary said the incident would be investigated.

“It is an unfortunate incident. The administration is engaged in extinguishing the fire. The CM has also spoken to the Prime Minister and all efforts are being made. The incident will be investigated at a high level,” he said. After receiving information about the incident, the fire brigade went to the place and started extinguishing the fire. CM Chouhan spoke to Defense Minister Rajnath Singh and sought help from the Air Force to douse the fire. He also spoke to Union Home Minister Amit Shah, apprised him of the incident and sought necessary assistance.

On the instructions of the Defense Minister, AN 32 and Mi-15 aircraft from the IAF were sent to Bhopal for the intervention. CM Shivraj Singh Chouhan also spoke to Prime Minister Narendra Modi over phone and informed him about the fire. He informed Prime Minister Modi about the efforts of the state government in putting out the fire and the assistance received from various ministries of the central government.

PM Modi assured the Chief Minister of all possible help from the Centre. Besides, the CM announced a commission to find out the preliminary causes of the fire. Additional Chief Secretary (ACS) Home Rajesh Rajoura, Principal Secretary (PS) Urban Neeraj Mandloi, Principal Secretary (PS) PWD (Public Works Department) Sukhbir Singh and Additional Director General of Police (ADG) fire are members of the committee. After establishing the preliminary cause in the investigation, the committee will submit the report to CM Chouhan.
