 NASA launched the Mars Rover Opportunity to search for signs of ancient water on the Red Planet. A full-scale replica of the space shuttle landed at the Visvesvaraya Industrial and Technical Museum (VITM) in Bengaluru on Thursday to inspire the next generation of scientific innovators and space explorers.

A replica of the Mars Rover Opportunity at the VITM Space Gallery was unveiled for public display on Thursday. The US Consulate General Chennai tweeted: ā€œMeet Oppy ā€“ a full scale replica of @NASA’s Mars Rover Opportunity built by @Cornell students. The exhibition is open to the public from 1st June at @VISMuseum in Bengaluru. Oppy is here to symbolize #USIndiaTogether and inspire the next generation of space explorers and innovators.ā€

A full-scale model of the Mars Rover Opportunity was built by students at Cornell University in the United States. The model was displayed in the US at the Smithsonian’s Air and Space Museum in Dulles, Virginia and in the US Pavilion during the 2020 Dubai World Expo. It was also displayed at the American Center at the US Consulate General in Chennai.

U.S. Assistant Secretary of Commerce for International Trade Marisa Lago said, ā€œAs the United States and India forge even closer cooperation across critical sectors, space is another example of our partnership, and today’s dedication ceremony serves as a symbol of our mutual commitment. according to an official report.

Speaking about the role space exploration plays in inspiring young minds, US Consul General in Chennai Judith Ravin said, ā€œThe US Consulate General is proud to support the Visvesvaraya Industrial and Technical Museum in promoting education in science, technology, engineering and of mathematics (STEM). We hope to inspire the next generation of space enthusiasts and innovators by showcasing the Mars Rover Opportunity replica.ā€

Ravin added, ā€œThe arrival of a full replica of the Mars Rover Opportunity in India also symbolizes the long-standing collaboration in space technology between India and the United States. India is an important partner of the United States in space exploration. Launched in 2005, the United States-India Joint Civilian Space Working Group is a venue for productive exchange and discussion of new and expanded areas of civil space cooperation.

Visvesvaraya Industrial and Technological Museum (VITM) Director KA Sadhana said, ā€œThe display of a full scale replica of the NASA Mars Rover Opportunity at VITM’s Space Technology Gallery will encourage public engagement and create a unique opportunity for the community to learn and be inspired. the wonders of space exploration.”

US Assistant Secretary of Commerce for International Trade Marisa Lago, US Consul General in Chennai Judith Ravin, UR Rao Satellite Center Bengaluru Director Dr Sankaran and Jet Propulsion Laboratory NISAR Mission System Manager Ana Maria Guerrero were also present, an official release said.
