Virat Kohli’s amazing reaction to Shubman Gill’s record century in IPL 2023 Qualifier 2 tie vs Mumbai Indians

Gujarat Titans opener Shubman Gill continued his love affair with the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad on Friday as he scored his third century of his sensational IPL 2023 season in Qualifier 2 against Mumbai Indians. He smashed a record 129 off just 60 balls as the hosts reached 233 for three – their highest total and the second highest against MI in the entire IPL. Following what was a knocking massacre as Gill took several wickets, Virat Kohli responded to the century with a bombastic contribution.

On Friday, it was simply a one-man show. Batting first on a track that looked patchy after heavy evening rain, openers Gill and Wriddhiman Shah got off to a promising start with a fifty-run stand before the latter departed.

Gill then got free with sixes each against Piyush Chawla and Kumar Kartikeya before dismissing Akash Madhwal and the veteran leg-spinner, which brought him a flurry of boundaries that took him to his century off just 49 balls.

Gill continued his bloodbath and added another 29 runs from the next 11 balls before being dismissed in the 17th over. But the knock combined with some assistance from Sai Sudharsan and Hardik Pandya helped GT reach 233 for three.

After the score, which saw Gill become the second Indian batsman to amass 800 runs in a season after Kohli’s 2016 campaign, the former RCB skipper responded with an amazing post on Instagram. He shared a picture of the GT opener as a story and wrote no words. It only had a star emoticon.

“I’ve got a good total, hopefully we’ll save it. A lot, the sweat was in my eyes and I couldn’t open them. We played our best cricket when we lost and this is one of those days. It definitely plays a part, you have to know which side to target if bigger boundaries and passing in good areas look for doubles, smaller boundaries look to take it New ball held a bit, not much wicket grass on it, ball came in nicely and on a wet pitch stopped swinging after 2 overs ,” Gill said after the inning.
