Morning dust storm hits Delhi & IMD expects more rain, thunderstorms in next 2 hours

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has predicted thunderstorms and dust storms along with light to moderate rainfall in Delhi and the adjoining National Capital Region (NCR) during the next two hours. It said the current weather development came after a cloud cluster is seen passing over the Delhi-NCR region.

The latest announcement came after Delhi received early morning rains along with thunderstorm and dust storm, days after the IMD issued a heat wave alert in the capital.

The Met Office also posted an alert on Twitter after the rainfall update. It suggested everyone in and around the city follow traffic advisories, asking people to stay indoors and keep windows and doors closed. It is also recommended to avoid travel if possible.

The IMD also advised them to take shelter safely and not stand under trees. Don’t lie on concrete floors or lean against concrete walls, it suggested. It was also recommended to unplug all electrical devices.

The Meteorological Department had earlier said that the maximum and minimum temperatures in the capital could hover around 37 and 22 degrees Celsius respectively. Daytime temperatures will remain between 35 and 38 degrees Celsius for the next seven days due to occasional showers.
