A record 503.92 million passengers carried by domestic airlines has been recorded

A remarkable increase in the number of passengers carried by domestic airlines has been recorded. According to traffic data provided by various domestic airlines, the number of passengers reached a record 503.92 million passengers, a significant year-on-year increase of 42.85% compared to the corresponding period of the previous year, which was 352.75 million passengers.

This remarkable increase in passenger numbers reflects the robustness and resilience of the Indian aviation industry and demonstrates the continued efforts to improve connectivity and provide convenient travel options to the citizens of our country.

Increased passenger numbers indicate growing demand for air travel and highlight the positive trajectory of the aviation sector.

Furthermore, the growth rate increased by 22.18% between April 2022 and April 2023, underscoring the sustained dynamism of the domestic aerospace industry. This consistent growth is a testament to the combined efforts of airlines, airports and the Ministry of Civil Aviation in supporting a safe, efficient and customer-centric aviation ecosystem.

Apart from the commendable growth in passenger numbers, the overall scheduled domestic flight cancellation rate for the month of April 2023 remained at an impressively low 0.47%. Also, the number of complaints per 10,000 transported passengers for the month of April 2023 was at a minimum of around 0.28.

This achievement is the result of careful planning, operational efficiency and proactive measures taken by the Ministry of Civil Aviation as well as the airlines which, despite the two-year slowdown due to COVID-19, have stepped up their operations to ensure seamless travel for passengers.

According to Shri Jyotiraditya M. Scindia, Union Minister for Civil Aviation and Steel, “The efforts of all concerned have been instrumental in the growth of the aerospace sector and in positioning India as a global aviation hub. We are delighted to witness the steady expansion of the domestic aerospace industry, which not only strengthens our economy but also connects people across the country.

The Department remains committed to fostering an enabling environment for the development of the aviation industry and will continue to work with stakeholders to facilitate sustainable growth and ensure the highest possible standards of safety, efficiency and passenger satisfaction.
