Olympic champion Neeraj Chopra became world number one for the first time in his career in the latest men’s javelin rankings released by World Athletics. Chopra was ranked first with 1455 points, 22 ahead of reigning world champion Anderson Peters of Grenada (1433).
The silver medalist from the Olympic Games in Tokyo Jakub Vadlejch from the Czech Republic was third with 1416 points. Chopra, 25, rose to world number two on August 30 last year but has remained behind Peters ever since.
In September last year, Neeraj Chopra won the 2022 Diamond League Final in Zurich, becoming the first Indian to win the prestigious trophy. He won the title at the inaugural Diamond League in Doha on May 5 with a throw of 88.67m.
