The Kerala Story enters the ₹150 crore club on its 11th day box office collection

Directed by Sudipto Sen, The Kerala Story earned ₹10.30 crore at the domestic box office on its 11th day of release. Sudipto Sen’s film is slowly approaching the ₹150 crore club. Currently, the film has grossed a total of ₹147.04 crore in India.

The Kerala Story, a religious conversion film, was engulfed in controversy after its trailer release. The film stars Adah Sharma, Yogita Bihani, Siddhi Idnani and Sonia Balani. It was released in India on 5 May and in 37 other countries on 12 May.

On Tuesday, film trade analyst Taran Adarsh shared the poster of the film on Twitter. In an interview Adah spoke about The Kerala Story. “The film tells you about people who use Islam for terrorism to join ISIS (militant group) camps. So whoever thinks the movie is about Islam is wrong. The Kerala Story is not about religion but about terrorism which has no religion. I am very sure of my religion so I would never bring down someone else’s religion. We all live in a country that covers all religions and all of them should be very well respected,” she said.

Produced by Vipul Shah, The Kerala Story describes how the women of Kerala were forced to convert and recruited by the terrorist group ISIS. The film is banned in West Bengal and multiplexes in Tamil Nadu have stopped screening it, citing the law and order situation. On the other hand, several states like Uttar Pradesh and Madhya Pradesh have given it tax-exempt status.

The Supreme Court said it will hear a plea on Tuesday challenging the Kerala High Court’s order refusing to stay the publication of The Kerala Story. Last week, the Supreme Court sought responses from the governments of West Bengal and Tamil Nadu to a separate plea by the producers of The Kerala Story that the film was not being screened in theaters in the two states.
