National Innovation Conclave on Low Carbon Technologies held on BEE’s 20th foundation day

The Bureau of Energy Efficiency (BEE) organized the National Innovation Conclave on Low Carbon Technologies on March 1, 2022, which was also BEE’s 20th Foundation Day. The conclave acted as a platform for presenting innovations demonstrating the benefits of saving energy and the potential reduction in greenhouse gas emissions if deployed in industrial and commercial sectors.

The Global Environment Facility (GEF) finances the Facility for Low Carbon Technology Deployment (FLCTD) project and is executed, in close association with the Bureau of Energy Efficiency (BEE), by the United Nations Industrial Development Organisation (UNIDO).

RK Singh, the Union Minister of Power and New & Renewable Energy, stressed that there is a need to create a robust ecosystem for innovation. Krishan Pal Gurjar, the Minister of State of Power and Heavy Industries, said that saving energy is everyone’s responsibility.

It is crucial for everyone to work towards Energy conservation and thus support in making the country cleaner and greener, he added. Various low carbon technology innovations developed and validated with the support of FLCTD project were displayed at the event.

A compilation of the Facility for Low Carbon Technology Deployment Accelerator was also released along with the facilitation of the winners. The primary focus of the conclave was on the challenges in low-carbon innovation, including the need for financing towards commercialization and scale-up. The conclave included sessions that informed on the innovating technologies, investments in clean technology innovation and FLCTD’s Accelerator programme.

The FLCTD project has received 558 applications, beginning 2018 against the innovation challenges and 59 winners have been selected by the experts. The FLCTD project assigns Rs 18.55 crores to the winners to substantiate their innovation in real-world scenarios. Till now, ten technologies out of the 18 technologies validated, have been commercialized.
