Pakistan’s Foreign Minister Bilawal Bhutto-Zardari on Friday declared his visit to Goa a “success” as he pleaded his country’s case on Indian soil. His remarks came hours after his Indian counterpart S Jaishankar accused him of being a “propagator, apologist and mouthpiece of the terrorist industry”.
Addressing a press conference after his return from Goa, where he attended a meeting of the Council of Foreign Ministers (CFM) of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO), Bhutto Zardari said his trip to India was a “success” as it helped dispel the notion that every Muslim he was a terrorist.
S Jaishankar against Bhutto Zardari in his speech at the SCO meeting, taking issue with Pakistan’s foreign minister’s statement that terrorism should not be “weaponised for diplomatic scoring”, in remarks aimed at India.
Jaishankar said that Bhutto-Zardari’s statement on the weaponization of terrorism unwittingly revealed a mindset.
“As the foreign minister of an SCO member state, Bhutto-Zardari was treated accordingly. As a propagandist, advocate and mouthpiece of the terrorist industry that supports Pakistan, his positions were invoked and defended, including in the SCO meeting itself,” Jaishankar said.
Responding to a question about talks with India, Bhutto-Zardari said Pakistan had made it clear that India should create a conducive environment for talks by restoring the status of Kashmir before August 5, 2019.
He also said that Central Asian countries are looking forward to become part of the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor. He said every country except India supports and praises CPEC.
