NITI Aayog, in collaboration with the United Nations Development Programme, today released ‘Best Practices in Social Sector: A Compendium, 2023’. To commemorate 75 years of India’s independence and to highlight and recognize the efforts of Union Ministries and State Governments, this review includes 75 case studies covering 14 key social sectors.
Case studies were obtained from all states/union territories and 30 ministries and departments of the Government of India.
“This publication is an opportunity for mutual learning among states, to appreciate the innovation efforts taking place in states and to adopt practices that best suit the context,” Shri Suman Bery, Vice-Chairman, NITI Aayog, said at the launch.
He added that this document should become a living document and be an active tool for innovation and expansion. “The utility of the compendium lies in the potential for case studies replicated across states and union territories,” noted Shri B.V.R Subrahmanyam, CEO, NITI Aayog.
“This document is not only significant for mutual learning between nations, but is also an important resource for other countries to learn from India’s successes,” noted Ms. Shoko Noda, UNDP India Resident Representative. “As India celebrates ‘Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav’, NITI Aayog and UNDP are releasing this compendium featuring 75 best practices in the social sector that really highlight the theme of ‘Achievements @75’ at the grassroots,” said Dr. Yogesh Suri, Senior Advisor, NITI Aayog.

75 best practices highlight models that are innovative, sustainable, replicable and effective. The aim of this exercise was to synthesize lessons for the future to expand, enhance and enhance life at the grassroots level.
Due care has been taken to spread the identified cases across various themes including education, health and nutrition, e-governance and digitalisation, agriculture, women empowerment, sports and financial inclusion.
NITI Aayog Vice Chairman Shri Suman Bery inaugurated the review in the presence of members Dr. VK Saraswat, Dr. VK Paul and Dr. Arvind Virmani and CEO, NITI Aayog Shri B.V.R Subrahmanyam; Ms. Shoko Noda, Resident Representative, UNDP India.
Senior officials of NITI Aayog; The Ministry of Skill Development and Entrepreneurship, Ministry of Agriculture and Farmer Welfare, Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology, Ministry of Health and Family Welfare were also present.
