Vladimir Putin says leaders in European countries were forced to lose their sense of independence and sovereignty

Russian President Vladimir Putin has said Germany is still “occupied” and unable to act independently decades after the country surrendered after World War II. The Russian president said this in response to a question about the Nord Stream gas pipeline explosions in an interview with Russian state television.

In support of his remarks, Vladimir Putin said that leaders in European countries were forced to lose their sense of independence and sovereignty.

Vladimir Putin says “The thing is that European politicians themselves publicly said that after World War II, Germany was never a fully sovereign state, Soviet Union at one point withdrew its forces and ended what amounted to an occupation of the country. But that, as is well known, was not the case with the Americans”.

Claiming that the Nord Stream gas pipeline incident was carried out at a “state level”, Vladimir Putin said suggestions that the explosions were carried out by an autonomous pro-Ukraine group were “absolute nonsense”.

“One should always look for those who are interested. And who is interested? Theoretically, of course, the United States is interested. Explosions of this kind, of this force, at this depth, can only be carried out by specialists and supported by the full power of a state that has certain technologies, Vladimir Putin said.

Germany’s defense minister previously said the explosions at the Nord Stream gas pipelines could have been a “false flag operation to blame Ukraine”.
