A magnitude 5.0 earthquake struck the Nicobar Islands region

An earthquake measuring 5.0 on the Richter scale struck the Nicobar Islands region at 5 am on Monday, March 6, the National Center for Seismology (NCS) said.

According to the NCS, the earthquake hit the Nicobar Islands region at a depth of 10 km. In a tweet, NCS wrote, “Magnitude: 5.0 Earthquake Occurred on 06/03/2023, 05:07:16 IST, Lat: 7.97 & Long: 91.65, Depth: 10 km, Location: Nicobar Islands Region.

Before that, in January, a 4.9-magnitude earthquake struck near the Andaman Sea. The depth of the earthquake was 77 km according to NCS. Last year, Andaman and Nicobar Islands recorded 22 earthquakes in 24 hours with a magnitude of 3.8 to 5.0.
