At least 11 people died and many were injured in separate shooting incidents reported in three US cities on Tuesday. The latest of many shootings was reported in Half Moon Bay, California, where seven people were killed, according to local media reports. Four of them were killed on a farm and three in a truck on the outskirts of Half Moon Bay, a town about 30 miles (48 kilometers) south of San Francisco.
The San Mateo County Sheriff’s Office said the suspect in the incident reported near Interstate 92 is in custody and there is no ongoing threat to the community at this time. The sheriff’s office previously said it “responded to a multiple casualty shooting incident in the area of HWY 92 and the HMB City limits. The suspect is in custody. There is no ongoing threat to the community at this time”.
Nation’s sixth mass shooting this year
The shooting was the nation’s sixth mass shooting this year — and follows the killing of 11 people late Saturday at a Southern California dance hall.
Earlier Monday, two students were killed and an adult staff member was wounded in a targeted shooting at a Des Moines school dedicated to helping at-risk youth, according to police.
The shooting happened at an educational program called Starts Right Here, which is affiliated with the Des Moines school district. Police said officers stopped a car matching the witness description about 20 minutes after the shooting and took the three suspects into custody.
The Des Moines school district said in a statement “We are saddened to learn of yet another act of violence, particularly one that impacts an organization that works closely with some of our students. We are still waiting to learn more details, but our thoughts are with the possible victims of this incident and their families and friends”.
Meanwhile, two people died and three others were seriously injured in a home invasion shooting at a Chicago apartment Monday afternoon, authorities said. Several suspects fled the scene and were not in custody, police said. “It does not appear to be a random act,” Deputy Chief of Police Sean Loughran said at a news conference.
