The United States announced another $2.5 billion military aid package for Ukraine to counter Russian aggression, bringing total U.S. military aid to $27.5 billion.
Foreign Secretary Antony Blinken announced “This assistance package will provide Ukraine with hundreds of additional armored vehicles, including Stryker armored personnel carriers, Bradley infantry fighting vehicles, mine-protected vehicles and high-mobility multi-purpose wheeled vehicles, the package also includes critical additional air defense support for Ukraine, including more Avenger air defense systems and surface-to-air missiles, as well as additional munitions for NASAMS previously provided by the United States”
Blinken said in a statement “It also contains night vision equipment, small arms and ammunition and other items to support Ukraine as it bravely defends its people, sovereignty and territorial integrity, Total of $2.5 billion, this package will bring total U.S. military assistance to Ukraine to an unprecedented approximately $27.5 billion since the beginning of the administration”.
He says “The United States also continues to rally the world in support of Ukraine. We have seen incredible solidarity from our allies and partners, including today’s Defense Contact Group for Ukraine, and we applaud the more than 50 countries that have come together to make significant contributions in support of Ukraine”.
In a separate statement, the Pentagon said the Kremlin’s latest airstrikes against Ukraine’s critical infrastructure once again demonstrated the devastating impact of Russia’s brutal war in Ukraine. This package provides additional NASAMS munitions and Avenger air defense systems to help Ukraine counter a range of short- and medium-range threats and strengthen its layered air defenses.
He also says “The 59 IFV Bradleys included in this package, along with the 50 Bradleys previously allocated on January 6, and 90 APC Strykers will provide Ukraine with two armored brigades”.
