US in 2023 will continue to strengthen its strategic position : White House

In 2023, the United States will continue to strengthen its strategic position in the long term, the White House said on Tuesday.

White House press secretary Karine Jean-Pierre told reporters at her daily press briefing that “This is a defining decade, and we are focused on how vigorously we compete to advance our interests while building diverse coalitions to address the greatest challenges of our time, that’s something the president has done in just one year. “He attended very consequential: G7, G20 and NATO summits”.

Jean-Pierre also said “This year will continue to see us strengthen our long-term strategic position by doing several things here, which I will list: significant investments in America’s domestic power resources; stands behind Ukraine and stands for the principles of an international order that protects sovereignty and territorial integrity and rejects aggression in Europe and around the world; protect Americans from threats at home and around the world, whether terrorism or cyber attacks; and building a flexible coalition around the world on food security, climate, technology and other key issues, So the president sees his foreign policy moving forward. This is what we were able to do in the first two years. So that’s incredibly important for the president”.

In response to a question about the prospects for peace, the press secretary said nothing about Ukraine without Ukraine. “That’s how we see this approach. And that is the consensus of this administration. We all support a just peace. That is something we all support. You heard the president say these words at the press conference – the 2+2 he did when President Zelenskyy made his first trip in 300 days since the beginning of Russian aggression,” she noted.

She also added that “But when we talk about a just peace, it has to include the principles of UN sovereignty and territorial integrity, as I just stated when we look at our 2023 goals.” It’s hard to take seriously the idea that Russia is ready for good faith diplomacy when it doubles down. They are doubling down on the annexation of Ukrainian territory and insisting that they can keep it. And that’s what they do. So it is not the basis of real diplomacy at all. Our job is to continue to support Ukraine on the battlefield so that it is in the best position to be at the negotiating table when that happens”.
