The Indian team will start 2023 with a three match T20I series against Sri Lanka

Team India had a rather lackluster year in 2022; it began with India’s Test series defeat against South Africa, which saw Virat Kohli step down as captain in the longest format, and while India’s performances in the bilateral series remained as strong as ever, they failed to translate that form into global events. In the 2022 T20 World Cup, the Rohit Sharma-led Indian team faced a 10-wicket loss in the semi-finals of the marquee tournament against eventual champions England.

The year saw a number of debuts and several captains sidelined across formats, due to injuries and resting senior players; and at the end of the year, Hardik Pandya took the lead in the T20Is for the series against Sri Lanka, where all three of their top players – KL Rahul, Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli – were missing from the shortest format line-up.

India ended the 2022 World Test Championship on a high note as they cemented second place in the table with a 2-0 series win against Bangladesh. But a new year brings new tests and the side will be looking to keep their form intact for the challenges ahead. As the Indian team prepares to enter a new year that includes both the WTC final and the home World Cup, let’s take a closer look at the side’s cricket calendar:
