The air quality in Gurugram has improved significantly and was in the ‘moderate’ category

Gurugram: The air quality in Gurugram has improved significantly and was in the ‘moderate’ category on Monday. The Air Quality Index (AQI) was recorded at 127 and experts said the reasons for reduced pollution in Delhi-NCR, including Gurugram, are relatively higher wind speed and higher daytime temperature, which helps in dispersal of pollutants.

The last time the city’s air quality was in the ‘moderate’ category was on November 7, when the AQI was recorded at 174. The System for Air Quality and Weather Forecasting and Research (Safar) said the AQI in Delhi-NCR is likely to remain in the “moderate” or “lower limit of poor” category for the next three days due to moderate surface wind speed. . Strong in the northwest at 700 to 800 meters is likely to disperse pollutants.

Sachin Panwar, the city’s air quality expert, said the heavy cyclonic activity recorded in southern India from December 4 to December 10, when strong winds were witnessed along the coast, helped clear pollutants across the Ganges basin in north and central India . “The cyclonic activity helped clear the skies and disperse pollutants over north and central India. It has had a positive impact on the air quality over Delhi-NCR and has helped improve the AQI in the last three to four days.

The sunny afternoons we witnessed in Gurugram also helped in dispersing the pollutants,” he said. Gurugram recorded a maximum temperature of 25.1 degrees Celsius and a minimum temperature of 10.4 degrees Celsius on Monday. In its forecast, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) Chandigarh station said the weather is likely to remain dry for the next five days, with isolated areas likely to witness shallow to moderate fog.

In its forecast, the Indian Institute of Tropical Meteorology said relatively stronger winds and better ventilation conditions are likely in the coming days and the air quality is likely to improve further but remain in the ‘poor’ category on Tuesday and Wednesday.
