PM modi is set to inaugurate Goa’s Mopa International Airport six years after

Prime Minister Narendra Modi is set to inaugurate Goa’s Mopa International Airport six years after he laid its foundation stone. Built at a cost of around ₹2,870 crore, the airport is expected to handle around 4.4 million passengers every year during its initial phase and can later be expanded to 33 million passengers a year. “The airport will support the socio-economic development of the state and will serve the needs of the tourism industry. It has the potential to serve as a key logistics hub that directly connects many domestic and international destinations,” a government statement said.

The Prime Minister will inaugurate the airport around 5.15 pm after addressing the 9th World Ayurveda Congress in Goa.

Mopa International Airport was developed on the theme of sustainable infrastructure and has facilities such as solar power plant, green buildings, LED runway lights, rainwater harvesting, state-of-the-art sewage treatment plant with recycling facilities, among others.

The airport has adopted some of the best-in-class technologies such as 3D Monolithic Prefab Buildings, StabilRoad, Robomatic Hollow Prefab Walls, 5G Compatible IT Infrastructure. Airport features include, among others, a runway capable of handling the largest aircraft in the world, 14 parking spaces along with night parking for aircraft, facilities for storing personal luggage, state-of-the-art infrastructure of independent air navigation.

The airport will also give visitors a feel and experience of Goa. Azulejos tiles which originate from Goa have been widely used in the airport and the food court also recreates the charm of a typical Goan cafe. It will also have a dedicated area for a curated flea market where local artisans and crafters will be encouraged to display and sell their wares.
