As a ritual before any crucial election, Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday went to meet his mother Heeraben Modi at her residence in Gandhinagar, a day before the second and final phase of voting in the Gujarat elections. A video shared by the news agency showed PM Modi arriving at his mother’s house in Gandhinagar, waving to the cameras.
Other glimpses of the prime minister’s visit were shared by the news agency, where she can be seen sitting next to her mother having tea in one of the pictures under a photo frame from a previous visit where she was feeding him with her hands. PM Modi also took blessings from Heeraben before the election as seen in another picture.
Polls in the second and final phase will be held in 93 assembly constituencies across Ahmedabad, Gandhinagar, Mehsana, Patan, Banaskantha, Sabarkantha, Aravali, Mahisagar, Panchmahal, Dahod, Vadodara, Anand, Kheda and Chhota Udaipur districts of Gujarat. As many as 833 candidates are in the fight for tomorrow’s elections.
The final phase of voting for the Gujarat polls will decide the fate of the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party, which is in a three-way fight against the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) and the Congress. Before winning the title of Prime Minister, Narendra Modi was the longest serving Chief Minister of Gujarat from 2001 to 2014. The party has been in power for the last 27 years.
