Customs officials at International Airport for allegedly smuggling gold in an iron box: Bengaluru

In Bengaluru, Customs officials arrested a passenger at the Kempegowda International Airport for allegedly smuggling gold in an iron box. The accused was traveling from Dubai and further investigation is underway. The accused was carrying gold bars worth Rs. 1.6 million, the customs department said on Friday; the arrest took place on Tuesday.

The Twitter post read, “Based on passenger profiling, customs officials at Kempegowda International AirpoBengart, Bengaluru nabbed the smuggler in the early hours of November 29. A passenger had arrived at Bengaluru airport from Dubai on Flight No. EK 568 was trying to smuggle gold hidden in an iron box inside the checked baggage. All the recovered gold was seized and the accused was sent to judicial custody.

The post further read, “2 pieces of gold bars in the shape of a ship weighing 3015 grams in total, estimated value Rs. 1.6 million crowns were extracted from the box using a metal cutter. All the items were secured and the arrested person was sent to judicial custody. Officials also released pictures of an iron crate and seized gold bars recovered from the accused. In October, the city’s customs department arrested a person at the Bengaluru airport for allegedly smuggling raw gold chains into Bengaluru. They also seized about 900 grams of gold worth around ₹46 lakh. The accused was sent for further questioning by the customs department.
