Ashwini Vaishaw’s statement on job creation by the central government drew sharp jibes from Rashtriya Lok Dal (RLD)

Union Minister Ashwini Vaishaw‘s statement on job creation by the central government drew sharp jibes from Rashtriya Lok Dal (RLD) chief and Rajya Sabha member Jayant Chaudhary. On Tuesday, Vaishnaw, Minister for Railways, Communications, Electronics and Information Technology, said that the central government is creating 15-16 thousand jobs on an average every month.

In response to Vaishnaw’s remark, Chaudhary tweeted, “Pakode garm hain (the fritters are hot),” apparently in response to Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s suggestion a few years ago that street food vendors who sell fritters should also be counted in employment statistics.

During an interview with Zee News in 2018, PM Modi said, “If someone opens a ‘pakoda’ shop in front of your office, doesn’t that count as employment? That person’s daily earnings of ₹200 will never enter any books or accounts. True is that a huge number of people are employed.’

Vaishnaw was speaking at the Rozgar Mela event at CRPF Group Center 2 in Rajasthan’s Ajmer, where he distributed appointment letters to the newly recruited appointees.

Led by Rozgar Mela, Prime Minister Modi circulated around 71,000 appointment letters to the newly recruited recruits on November 22 through video conferencing. The Rozgar Mela is expected to act as a catalyst in the next generation of employment and provide meaningful opportunities to the youth for their empowerment and direct participation in national development, according to the Prime Minister’s Office.

Addressing the gathering, the Prime Minister said that more than 71,000 youths are getting appointment letters in more than 45 cities in India, which will lead to a new era of happiness for so many families.

“You are given this new responsibility during a special period. The country has entered the “Amrit Kaal” (Golden Age). In this ‘Amrit Kaal’, the people of the country have pledged to create a developed India. You will all become the charioteers of the country in fulfilling this promise,” he told the newly inducted appointees.
