Disaster Focus : 6 people were killed and several injured as three tremors triggered landslides in different parts of Nepal & india

At least six people were killed and several injured as three tremors triggered landslides in different parts of Doti district in the past 24 hours, the news agency said. Strong tremors were felt in Delhi and the NCR region, waking people from their sleep around 2 am. The National Seismological Center of Nepal has confirmed that there have been three tremors in Nepal in the last 24 hours – two earthquakes and aftershocks.

“The third strong tremor of magnitude 6.6 which struck at around 2.12 am on Wednesday resulted in the loss of three lives after a house collapsed. The deaths are reported from Gairagaun,” Ram Prasad Upadhyay, chairman of Purbichauki-03 village council in Doti district .According to reports, dozens of houses were damaged in the district.

The first 4.9 magnitude earthquake hit Nepal around 8:52 p.m. A second 6.3-magnitude earthquake struck Nepal at around 1:57 am, with tremors felt strongly in Delhi, Ghaziabad, Noida, Gurugram and even Lucknow. The epicenter of the second earthquake was 90 km east-southeast of Pithoragarh in Uttarakhand. A representative of the Delhi Disaster Management Authority told that no earthquake-related damage calls were received at the emergency operations centre.

Social media users took to Twitter to share their experiences of the tremors, which they said were unprecedented, although the Delhi-NCR region is prone to such tremors. Residents of high-rise buildings have posted photos of a shaking ceiling fan. Union Minister Meenakshi Lekhi tweeted: “I didn’t mean to tweet but it’s safe to say it was like an earthquake!

The Himalayan state has suffered huge losses due to devastating earthquakes. In 2015, a powerful 7.8 magnitude earthquake struck central Nepal, killing 8,964 and injuring nearly 22,000. On October 19 this year, an earthquake with a magnitude of 5.1 shook Kathmandu. On July 31, a 6.0 magnitude earthquake struck Kathmandu.
