BJP’s Janardan Mishra Speaking at a workshop on water conservation held in Madhya Pradesh

While encouraging people to invest in water conservation, BJP’s Janardan Mishra made a remark on Monday that could raise eyebrows. Speaking at a workshop on water conservation held in his parliamentary constituency in Madhya Pradesh, Mishra said, “The country is drying up water, it needs to be saved… Drink alcohol, chew tobacco, smoke weed or sniff thinner and solution, but be aware of the importance of water. “

“There is no water left under the soil. Every year the water table is decreasing because we use more water than we save. We do not return the water back to the ground,” said the MP. Only when you spend money on water conservation do you understand the value of saving water, he further stated.

“Spend money on anything, I have no objection, chew tobacco, drink alcohol or drive pot, do whatever you want. Spend on personal items or for religious purposes, but understand the importance of water,” he said

This is not the first time that Mishra has grabbed headlines through his unexpected statement and activities. Earlier, in a video that went viral in September, Mishra was seen cleaning a toilet with his bare hands at a girls’ school in the state. Another statement by Mishra sparked controversy last year after he said he should be approached only if an individual is accused of corruption for an amount exceeding Rs 15 crore.
