Inaugurate of 15th Urban Mobility India (UMI) Conference & Expo 2022 in Kochi on November 4, 2022

Union Minister for Housing and Urban Affairs Shri Hardeep Singh Puri and Kerala Chief Minister Shri Pinarayi Vijayan will jointly inaugurate the 15th Urban Mobility India (UMI) Conference & Expo 2022 in Kochi on November 4, 2022. The event is organized by the Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs matters in collaboration with Govt. of Kerala from 4th to 6th November 2022 at Hotel Grand Hyatt Kochi, Kerala.

The event will be attended by senior officers of central and state government politicians, CEOs of Metro Rail companies, CEOs of transport companies, international experts, professionals, academics and students. The National Urban Transport Policy (NUTP), 2006 of the Government of India, inter alia, places great emphasis on capacity building at the state and city levels to address urban transport challenges and lays down guidelines for equitable and sustainable development. urban transport systems for all levels of society.

As part of the NUTP declaration, the ministry has taken the initiative to organize the annual International Conference on Urban Mobility in India, popularly known as UMI. The primary objective of the conference is to disseminate information to participating cities to help them keep abreast of the latest and best practices in urban transportation around the world. The conference provides an opportunity to interact with other experts, technology and service providers, domestic and international, so that delegates can take away ideas to develop their urban transport in a sustainable way.

The event brings together national and international experts, technology and service providers, policy makers, practitioners and officials from the field of urban transport under one roof. The Urban Mobility India (UMI) Conference & Expo this year will focus on the theme ‘Azadi@75 – Sustainable Urban Mobility AatmaNirbhar’. It emphasizes the design and implementation of an efficient, high-quality and sustainable transport system in cities. The rapid advancement of information technology and innovations in this sector enable more optimal use of transport systems to meet the mobility needs of all.

Innovations have led to a wide variety of transport options emerging, expanding the choice available to commuters. For example, Metro Neo and Metro Lite have emerged as cheaper options for Metro Rail and can serve as good options for mid-sized cities. Cities are planning innovative circulator services to serve local areas, avoiding the need for personal motor vehicles.
