The number of cases in mainland China reached 2,898 on Sunday, surpassing 2,000 for the second day in a row, the biggest nationwide increase in infections since Aug. 10, . The country’s 31 provinces have seen an increase in Covid infections as the virus has spread to at least two-thirds of the country. In just five days, the number of cases of the virus rose from an average of about 1,400 cases.

3. The worst affected were the 1.8 million residents of Haizhou.
4. The total number of cases in Guangzhou has risen to 1,110 as the city faces a major lockdown.

6. Datong, Xining, Nanjing, Xian, Zhengzhou and Wuhan forced temporary lockdowns of some districts.
