killed two people in Bijapur district of Bastar region, including the brother of one of their operatives on suspicion

Maoists have reportedly killed two people in Bijapur district of Bastar region, including the brother of one of their operatives on suspicion of being an informer, police said on Monday. The incident took place in the jungle under Gangaloor police station limits. A police team was sent to the area to verify and bring the bodies to the district headquarters for post-mortem.

Ministry sources said another villager is in Maoist custody since Sunday. “We have initial information that Maoists have allegedly killed two in Pedakorma and Pusnar villages under Gangaloor police station limits,” Bastar Inspector General of Police Sundarraj P said. He said one of the deceased is likely to be Raju Podiyami, brother of Gangaloor CPI (Maoist) Area Committee Secretary Dinesh Modiyam. “The killing of villager Dula Kodme is being verified,” the IG said.

Meanwhile, a sub-inspector was injured in a gunfight between Maoists and security forces in Bijapur on Sunday. The clash started on the Tarrem-Chinagelur road under Tarrem police station limits on Sunday night during which sub-inspector Rajesh Suryawanshi sustained minor injuries.
