5.1-magnitude earthquake struck the Gulf of Corinth in central Greece

A 5.1-magnitude earthquake struck the Gulf of Corinth in central Greece early Sunday morning, but there were no immediate reports of damage or injuries, authorities said.

The European-Mediterranean Seismological Center (EMSC), which revised the original magnitude to 5.7, said the quake struck 5 kilometers (3.1 mi) below the surface in the gulf separating mainland Greece from the Peloponnese peninsula, 16 kilometers from the city Itea. The tremor, which occurred just after 1 a.m. (2200 GMT), was felt as far away as Athens, the capital, about 115 kilometers away.
