France urges its citizens to leave Iran

France on Friday urged its citizens to leave Iran as soon as possible, saying they were at risk of arbitrary detention. “Any French visitor, including dual nationals, is exposed to a high risk of arrest, arbitrary detention and unfair trial,” the French foreign ministry said on its website.

France this week criticized Iran for “dictatorial practices” and took two of its citizens hostage after a video aired Thursday in which they appeared to confess to espionage, amid weeks of unrest that Tehran has linked to foreign enemies. Earlier on Friday, the French Foreign Ministry called on Iran to release its two nationals.
