A major fire broke out at a chemical factory in Domjur Howrah on Monday afternoon triggering panic in the area already tense due to an ongoing workers strike. Thankfully no casualties have been reported.
The fire, which started around 2 PM was swiftly tackled by 18 fire tenders, with firefighters managing to bring the situation under control after intense efforts. According to officials, a cooling operation is currently in progress to prevent any re-ignition.
At the time of the blaze the factory was on a production halt because of the strike. Some staff members inside the facility escaped unharmed, while protesting workers outside fled as the fire broke out.
The exact cause of the fire is yet to be determined, and an investigation is underway. Authorities are also reviewing safety measures at the plant as part of their probe.
