A Bangladesh Air Force (BAF) installation in Cox’s Bazar came under attack on Monday from the neighboring Samiti Para region, prompting immediate security measures from the military, according to the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR).
Ayesha Siddiqua, ISPR assistant director, confirmed that the BAF was taking necessary steps to address the situation. Cox’s Bazar District Commissioner Mohammad Salahuddin reported that one person was killed and several others injured in the clash. Authorities have launched an investigation to determine the cause of the confrontation.
The victim, identified as 30-year-old trader Shihab Kabir from Samiti Para, was shot during the attack. Saiful Islam, in charge of the police box at Cox’s Bazar District Sadar Hospital, confirmed that Kabir was pronounced dead upon arrival.
The assault occurred just hours after Home Affairs Adviser Retired Lt Gen M Jahangir Alam Chowdhury reaffirmed the government’s commitment to maintaining law and order. Speaking from Dhaka, he accused allies of the ousted Awami League regime under deposed PM Sheikh Hasina of attempting to destabilize the country, vowing that such elements “will in no way be spared.”
Security personnel have since restricted access to the area, and investigations are underway to determine the motive behind the attack and those responsible.
