Former US President Jimmy Carter Passes Away at 100

Jimmy Carter is 39th president of the United States and a Nobel Peace Prize laureate, passed away peacefully at his home in Plains, Georgia, surrounded by his family. Carter, who had been in hospice care since February 2023, was 100 years old.

Born on October 1, 1924, Carter rose from modest beginnings in rural Georgia to serve as president from 1977 to 1981. A former peanut farmer and US Navy veteran, he became governor of Georgia before ascending to the White House. Despite a presidency marked by challenges, including the Iran hostage crisis and economic struggles, Carter’s post-presidential legacy solidified him as a champion of peace, human rights, and global diplomacy.

During his presidency, Carter prioritized human rights and brokered the landmark Camp David Accords, facilitating peace between Israel and Egypt. However, domestic and foreign policy difficulties, including a failed rescue operation for hostages in Iran and an energy crisis, led to his defeat in the 1980 election by Ronald Reagan.

Post-presidency, Carter dedicated himself to humanitarian causes. In 1982, he established the Carter Center, which has worked tirelessly to promote democracy, resolve conflicts, and fight diseases worldwide. His efforts earned him the 2002 Nobel Peace Prize.

Carter was also an active election observer, mediator, and advocate for social and economic justice. Guided by his Christian faith, he continued teaching Sunday school at his local church well into his 90s.
Leaders and dignitaries worldwide have paid tribute to Carter’s legacy. Egyptian President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi praised him as a “symbol of humanitarian efforts,” while former US presidents highlighted his dedication to creating a better world.

President Joe Biden honored Carter as a man of “faith, principle, and humility,” encouraging future generations to study his life as an example of purpose and service.
Carter was married to Rosalynn Carter for 77 years. Her passing in November 2023 at age 96 deeply affected the former president, who attended her memorial service in a wheelchair, draped in a blanket bearing their likenesses.

He is survived by their four children three sons and a daughter and a legacy that continues to inspire people across the globe.
Jimmy Carter’s century-spanning life epitomized grace, resilience, and commitment to humanity. From humble beginnings to the world stage, his journey reflected a life dedicated to peace, justice, and service.
