The All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE) here today launched the curriculum designed for B. Tech Electronics VLSI Design & Technology and Diploma in IC Manufacturing. This course will provide a range of jobs with excellent salary incentives for Indian students in global companies as well as Indian companies. The VLSI sector is a high-paying industry and is immune to automation and will create an environment for a semiconductor ecosystem to set up and expand.
PM Shri Narendra Modi says “Semiconductors play a critical role in the world in more ways than we can imagine. Our common goal is to establish India as one of the key partners in global semiconductor supply chains, We are investing heavily in the skills and training of young Indians for the needs of the 21st century. We have an exceptional talent pool for semiconductor design, comprising up to 20 percent of the world’s semiconductor designers. Almost all the top 25 semiconductor design companies have their design or R&D centers in our country”.
The Semicon India program (with a total expenditure of ₹ 76,000 crore) is aimed at developing the semiconductor and display manufacturing ecosystem in India. The program provides financial support to companies investing in semiconductors, display manufacturing and the design ecosystem.
In line with Semicon India, the Chips to Startup (C2S) program aims to train 85,000 engineers (Bachelor, Masters and Research levels combined) qualified in ESDM fields over a period of 5 years. About ICs and VLSIs

Very large scale integration (VLSI) is the process of creating an integrated circuit (IC) by combining many metal oxide silicon transistors onto a single chip.
AICTE Notification
AICTE, the statutory body for technical education, has introduced a curriculum designed for
- B.Tech Electronics Engineering (VLSI Design & Technology) and
- (ii) Diploma in IC Manufacturing. The courses will be uploaded on the AICTE portal. Any number of colleges/universities/technical institutions affiliated to AICTE may choose to offer these courses. Usual starting salaries for a fresher role at VLSI range from Rs 10 lakh per annum to Rs 20 lakh per annum depending on the company with an average annual salary of Rs 14 lakh per annum. Average annual salary in MNCs for starters is 30 – 80 LPA
