Wrestlers protesting at Jantar Mantar against WFI chief Briji Bhushan, who accused him of sexual harassment, alleged that they were ill-treated and abused by Delhi Police personnel on Wednesday night.
However, Delhi Police countered that some supporters of the protesting wrestlers became aggressive after they were prevented from taking folding beds at the protest site, which police said was not allowed, leading to chaos.
A large number of people from different walks of life, including farmers from Delhi’s neighboring states and DU students, reached Jantar Mantar on Thursday and expressed solidarity with the wrestlers there who were protesting there demanding the arrest of WFI chief Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh.
Many of them raised slogans in support of the wrestlers a day after a brawl broke out between wrestlers and police in Delhi. Several wrestlers were injured in the ruckus late Wednesday night, which reportedly started over the laying of wooden beds at the protest site.
The wrestlers also accused the police officer of manhandling them while drunk, but the Delhi Police denied using force against the protesters.
Several videos of the tense situation went viral on social media and grappler Bajrang Punia in a press conference called on the farmers and their leaders to come to the protest site on Thursday morning and support them.
