Cabinet ratifies India-Japan Cooperation Agreement for Domestic Wastewater Management

The Union Cabinet led by the Prime Minister, Shri Narendra Modi, today gave its prior approval of anMoC agreement signed between the Department of Water Affairs, River Development and Gland Rehabilitation (DoWR, RD&GR), the Department. by Jal Shakti and the Japan Department of Environmental Affairs in the Domestic Wastewater Management Areas. A Management Council (MC) will be established to oversee the implementation of the MoC by performing detailed co-operative functions and monitoring its progress.

Major impacts

Co-operation with Japan through the MoC will yield excellent results in areas such as Domestic Wastewater Management and the effective reuse of clean wastewater using Johkasou technology. Johkasou’s distributed plans for wastewater management can have a significant impact on the management of gray / black water from Jal Jeevan Mission areas and the sustainability of clean water resources under the campaign, except for the same situation under the NamamiGange program. It will help ULBs better plan a complex wastewater treatment plant.

Administrative Management

The Department of Water, River Development and Gland Rehabilitation aims to co-operate with other countries in the development and management of water resources by sharing policy and technical expertise, conducting training courses, workshops, science and technology symposia, exchange of expertise and learning. tours. A Memorandum of Understanding (MoC) was signed between the Department of Water Resources Development and Ganga Rehabilitation (DoWR, RD&GR), the Department of Jal Shakti (MoJS) and the Japan Department of Environmental Affairs in the Wastewater.
