Former RCB player AB de Villiers picked his favorite IPL 2023 player between Shubman Gill or Virat Kohli

Although Rajasthan Royals failed to qualify for the IPL 2023 playoffs, the franchise saw some brilliant cricket from Yashvasvi Jaiswal. The young starter finished the campaign as RR’s top scorer and is also currently fourth in the Orange Cap race. In 14 matches, Jaiswal scored 625 runs at an average of 48.08 and 163.61. He also hammered a ton and five half-centuries during the season, with his highest score being 124.

An uncapped player, Jaiswal has caught everyone’s eye with his shot selection and also the way he finds gaps. Such was the impact that fans even forgot about the casual star opener Jose Buttler. In an interview on JioCinema, former RCB player AB de Villiers praised Jaiswal and named him as his favorite player of IPL 2023.

Shubman Gill or Virat Kohli a choice

“For me, Yashasvi Jaiswal and by a long shot for sure. He’s a young player and he’s got all the shots in the book. He has a calm and composed temperament at the wicket and I love what he does, he dominates the bowler and always looks like he’s in control,” he said .

“Shubman is a bit older, I think Jaiswal has a long way to go and has all the makings to be great,” he added.

RR finished the league stage in fifth place and missed out on the playoffs. In 14 matches, they managed to collect 14 points, including seven wins and seven defeats. Jaiswal’s impact was crucial as Buttler lost his way after a good start to the season. Last year’s Orange Cap winner Buttler scored an unwanted record in his team’s last league match against Punjab Kings, scoring the most ducks in a single season (5).

Buttler has started very well with scores of 54, 19, 79 and 52 in his first four matches this season. But then his form dipped and he could only score one more than 50 (96 vs. Sunrisers Hyderabad). He was dismissed for five ducks in the next 10 matches.
