India captain Rohit Sharma and top batsmen Virat Kohli and KL Rahul have been rested for the white-ball tour of New Zealand next month, but the trio will return for the Bangladesh series, India coach Chetan Sharma said on Monday. India will play three Twenty20 matches and three one-day internationals in New Zealand from November 18, with Hardik Pandya leading the side in T20s while Shikhar Dhawan will captain the 50-overs.
The rested batting trio are back in the lineup when India tour Bangladesh for three ODIs and two Tests in December. India is currently in Australia for the T20 World Cup. “No one has asked for rest, the selectors have reports on load management to decide which players need rest. We are in constant touch with the team management and the medical team,” Sharma told reporters.
Sharma said injured Indian fast bowler Jasprit Bumrah will not be risked for the Test series in Bangladesh as he looks set to be fully fit ahead of Australia’s tour of India early next year. Bumrah was left out of the World Cup squad due to a back injury flare-up. “The NCA (National Cricket Academy) medical team is looking after him very well, he will definitely be involved against Australia, but we are cautious when it comes to the Bangladesh tour,” Sharma said.
