New Delhi: Actor-comedian Vir Das has made history as the first Indian to host the prestigious International Emmy Awards. The announcement came from Vir himself via Instagram on Wednesday, where he expressed his excitement. “Thanks to your support, an Indian Emmy host! Can’t wait to host the @iemmys this year! Crazy. Thank you for having me. Tremendously honoured and excited!” he wrote. The 2024 International Emmy Awards will take place in New York City on November 25.
Industry peers and celebrities flooded his post with congratulatory messages. Hrithik Roshan commented, “Wow. That’s amazing. Very well done.” Kriti Sanon and Dia Mirza also expressed their excitement, while Shweta Tripathi called it “absolutely amazing.”
This isn’t Vir’s first association with the Emmys. In 2021, he was nominated for his Netflix special Vir Das: For India. He secured his first win in 2023 with Landing. Apart from stand-up, Vir has starred in popular shows like Hasmukh on Netflix and Jestination Unknown on Amazon. He also appeared in Hollywood productions, including Judd Apatow’s The Bubble.
Vir Das has been a trailblazer in the global comedy scene, combining his stand-up career with acting roles in Bollywood hits like Delhi Belly and Go Goa Gone. He is also the frontman for the comedy-rock band Alien Chutney. Vir’s latest appearance was in the series Call Me Bae, earning him rave reviews.
