Education Focus: The PM eVIDYA has been initiated as part of “Atma Nirbhar Bharat” Abhiyaan by Department of Education

The use of ICT under a comprehensive initiative called PM in VIDYA by the Department of School Education, Department of Education, especially during the COVID-19 epidemic wins UNESCO recognition. PM in VIDYA was established as part of the Atma Nirbhar Bharat Abhiyaan by Department of Education on 17 May, 2020, which integrates all efforts related to digital / online / online education to achieve more ways to transfer education through technology to reduce learning losses. Central Institute of Educational Technology (CIET), a unit that is part of the National Council for Educational Research and Training (NCERT) under the Department of School Education and Literacy (DOSEL), Department of Education (MoE), Government of India has been awarded the UNESCO award King Hamad Bin Isa Al-Khalifa 2021 Use of ICT in Education for Education.

The award “recognizes new ways to use new technologies to increase learning and lifelong learning opportunities for all, in line with the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development and its 4th Education Goal. Founded in 2005 with the support of the Kingdom of Bahrain, the Award honors individuals and organizations that implement outstanding projects and promote the intelligent use of technology to enhance the learning, teaching and overall performance of education in the digital age. The international judge selects the two best projects a year. Each prize winner receives US $ 25,000, a medal and a diploma during a ceremony to be held at the UNESCO Headquarters in Paris, to be held this year on June 24, 2022.

With the mandate to use affordable technology to improve the educational opportunities for all, to raise the standard of education and to bring equity into the national education system and to adhere to NEP-2020 recommendations, the Department of Education through CIET, NCERT has worked tirelessly and carefully to design, develop and distribute a large number of eBooks eContent – audio, video, communication, unpopular real content for taxpayers, Indian Sign Language (ISL) videos, audio books, speech books, etc .; a variety of eCourses for school education and teachers; organizing digital events such as online questions especially for students and teachers online / offline, One Class-One Channel, DIKSHA, ePathshala, NISHTHA, school MOOCs in SWAYAM , etc.

To further the goals of the NEP and Samagra Shiksha and to address the aforementioned pillars, the PM in Vidya – a comprehensive, all-inclusive campaign that provides access to digital / online / online education was launched in May 2020.CIET has been active in bringing learning to the doorstep for children through the extensive, robust, ethical, and compactness of 12 PM TV stations at Vidya DTH and nearly 397 radio stations, including community radio stations under the PM program in Vidya. These efforts have been particularly helpful in epidemic situations, when schools are closed, and out of reach of students. These efforts helped to capture the suspension of learning on a large scale.
