Disaster Focus: Several tornadoes were reported in the US Texas & 12 people were injured

Several tornadoes were reported in the US Texas on Friday, injuring at least two dozen people, the news agency reported. The storms damaged houses in many places, left debris on roads and uprooted trees, disrupting normal life in the south central region. Several videos have surfaced on social media showing the severe damage to infrastructure caused by the storms.

The video said to be from Paris in the region was recorded by a family which shows their house completely cut into rubble after the storm. Through the sound of gushing winds, a young boy is seen saying, “I’m looking for my blanket,” followed by another person, a man, comforting everyone, saying “don’t worry, we’re fine.” Northeast Texas Lamar County Judge Brandon Bell, the top elected official in the county, which includes towns like Powderly, Paris, etc., declared a disaster in the area and confirmed two dozen injuries as a result of the tornado. The sheriff’s office said the tornado touched down around 4 p.m. and damaged and destroyed about 50 homes, the sources reported.

Heavy damage was reported from Powderly, in particular, although an official said there had been no confirmed deaths yet. “It’s going to take a long time to clean up, but the community has come together,” said Randi Johnson, chief of the Powderly Volunteer Fire Department. “It’s really heartbreaking to see. The National Weather Service issued a warning, saying “the threat of tornadoes, some intense and damaging winds continues overnight in the ArkLaTex region (Arkansas, Louisiana and Texas) as a strong cold front moves across the southern Plains.”
