Disgusted with the Election Commission of India (ECI) after he lost the party’s name and symbol to the Eknath Shinde-led faction, former Maharashtra Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray on Sunday hit out at Union Home Minister Amit Shah, quoting an iconic dialogue from a Bollywood film. Mr. India’ – “Mogambo khush hua”.
During an interaction with members of the North Indian community in Andheri, Thackeray took aim at Shah, who remarked “doodh ka doodh aur pani ka pani ho gaya (state the absolute truth)”, referring to the ECI order. “‘Mogambo khush hua’ at the behest of the Election Commission,” he said, mocking Shah, comparing him to the villain “Mogambo” from the Anil Kapoor-starrer Pan India.
A day after the Election Commission gave the Shinde-led faction the party name ‘Shiv Sena’ and the symbol ‘bow and arrow’, Shah, who was visiting Pune, said the poll panel confirmed the fact that truth always prevails.
The Union Home Minister said “Yesterday the Election Commission did ‘doodh ka doodh, aur paani ka paani’. The ‘Satyameva Jayate’ formula became significant yesterday. Shinde ji was given the bow and arrow symbol and the party name Shiv Sena”.
Thackeray glanced at Shah “Someone who visited Pune yesterday asked how things were in Maharashtra. Then he got a reply that the EC ruled in their favor. Then the same person said, ‘Well done, Mogambo Khush Hua, just like Mogambo, who wanted to rule the country by dividing the people, Shah and his party are using the politics of divide and rule in India”.
The former chief minister also targeted Prime Minister Narendra Modi and termed central agencies like the Enforcement Directorate (ED) and the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) as his “wolves”. Referring to Modi’s recent speech in Parliament where he said how he single-handedly defeated all opposition, Thackeray said, “He sends his wolves like ED, CBI against the opposition and then claims to fight alone.”
