National Security Adviser Ajit Doval on Wednesday said that no country should be allowed to use Afghan territory to export terrorism and asserted that India will never abandon the people of Afghanistan in their time of need.
Speaking at the Multilateral Security Dialogue on Afghanistan in Moscow, Doval said an inclusive and representative liberation in Kabul is in the greater interest of Afghan society.
He also reaffirmed that the welfare and humanitarian needs of the people of Afghanistan are a top priority for India and will continue to guide New Delhi’s approach to the country, official sources said.
The National Security Adviser (NSA) is on a two-day visit to Moscow from Wednesday.
The fifth meeting of Security Council Secretaries/NSA on Afghanistan was attended by representatives of Iran, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, China, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan and Uzbekistan in addition to Russia and India, official sources said Doval, in his remarks at the meeting, said that India “is and will remain” in Afghanistan an important stakeholder. “We have always stood by the people of Afghanistan and will always support the collective efforts to help the Afghan people rebuild a prosperous and vibrant nation,” sources quoted Doval as saying.
The meeting discussed various issues related to Afghanistan, including the security situation and humanitarian challenges facing the country, they said. The third round of this conference was held in Delhi under the chairmanship of Doval in November 2021.
The NSA said terrorism has become a major threat to the region and stressed the need for increased intelligence and security cooperation among member states to deal with terrorist organizations such as Lashkar-e-Toiba, Jaish-e-Mohammed and Daesh. resources.
Doval also spoke about the importance of UN Security Council Resolution 2593, which demanded that terrorist outfits, including those designated by the top UN body, have no sanctuary in the region, they said.
The NSA said that Afghanistan was going through a difficult phase and that “India will never abandon the Afghan people in their time of need”.
An inclusive and representative exemption is in the greater interest of Afghan society, he said.
India has not yet recognized the Taliban regime in Afghanistan and is seeking a truly inclusive government in Kabul.
Following the humanitarian crisis in Afghanistan following the Taliban takeover, India has supplied 40,000 metric tonnes of wheat, 60 tonnes of medicines, 5,00,000 Covid vaccines, winter clothing and 28 tonnes of disaster relief to the country.
India has given new scholarships to 2,260 Afghan students, including 300 Afghan girls, during the last two years. India is seeking to provide unrestricted humanitarian assistance to Afghanistan to address the developing humanitarian crisis.
In June last year, India renewed its diplomatic presence in Kabul by deploying a “technical team” at its embassy in the Afghan capital.
India withdrew its officials from the embassy after the Taliban took power in August 2021 due to concerns over their safety. Doval’s visit to Moscow comes weeks before the G-20 foreign ministers meet in New Delhi.
Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov is expected to travel to India to attend the meeting on March 1-2.
