The Universal Service Obligation Fund (USOF), a body under the Ministry of Telecom, has officially launched the Telecom Technology Development Fund (TTDF) scheme on 1 October 2022. The scheme is in line with Prime Minister Shri. Narendra Modi‘s clarion call to add Jan Anusandhaan to the new phase of Amrit Kaal.
The Telecom Technology Development Fund (TTDF) aims to fund research and development of rural-specific communication technology applications and create synergies between academia, start-ups, research institutes and industry to build and develop the telecom ecosystem. In addition, the regime aims to promote technology ownership and domestic production, create a culture of joint technology innovation, reduce imports, increase export opportunities and create intellectual property.
Under this scheme, USOF also focuses on developing standards to meet national requirements and creating an ecosystem for research, design, prototyping, use cases, pilot projects and concept testing, among others. The program includes grants to Indian entities to support and introduce domestic technologies tailored to domestic needs. The call for proposals for the TTDF is open from 1 October 2022.
