Prime Minister Narendra Modi is pushing for Artificial Intelligence (AI) to benefit the people of India, says Google CEO Sundar Pichai. Following a high-profile meeting in New York with global tech leaders, Pichai emphasized that Modi’s Digital India initiative is aimed at transforming the nation through technological advancements.
Pichai highlighted India’s growing role in tech manufacturing, revealing that Google is now producing Pixel phones locally. He also discussed Modi’s focus on how AI can enhance healthcare, education, and agriculture, urging companies to explore applications in these fields.
The meeting, hosted by MIT’s School of Engineering, included CEOs from Nvidia, Adobe, Accenture, AMD, HP, IBM, and others. Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang praised Modi for his eagerness to learn about AI, calling him an “incredible student.” Huang expressed optimism about partnering with India in AI development through collaborations with start-ups and institutes like IITs.
PM Modi, in a post on X, referred to the roundtable as “fruitful,” noting the extensive discussions on innovation and technology. He also expressed satisfaction with the positive outlook towards India’s technological advancements.
According to the Ministry of External Affairs, the roundtable covered key areas such as AI, quantum technology, biotechnology, semiconductors, and IT. Modi emphasized his government’s commitment to making India a global hub for semiconductor manufacturing, as well as promoting ethical and responsible AI use under the “AI for All” policy.
The CEOs expressed a keen interest in investing and collaborating with India, acknowledging the country’s rise as a global tech hub, driven by innovation-friendly policies and promising market opportunities.
